 Willie Creek Pearl Farm Willie Creek Pearl Farm is probably Broome’s most popular tour. Normally, I am skeptical of any tour as a trap. However, I heard good things about Willie and figured it was obligatory to learn something about pearl farming while in Broome. If you choose, a driver will pick you up from your hotel and take you to the Willie Creek Pearl Farm. The coach is air conditioned but you can save a good amount of money if you drive yourself, especially if your entire family is going. It is only about 40 km outside of center Broome. When you arrive, you get a full tour of the live pearling process. Oysters are actually seeded inside their shells. There is then a short refreshment break. Next, you get on a boat for a tour of modern pearling and get to see the pearl panels up close. Afterwards, of course, you get the chance to buy pearl gifts from the gift shop. The Willie Creek Pearl Farm has won awards for its tours and it is obvious why. The guides are really informative but not in a boring, scholarly way. They had lots of fun facts interspersed with the history of pearling, Broome and about why pearling is such a dangerous job. Did you know that the hologram on your credit card is made from pearl? Plus, the pearl farm is located in a beautiful area on the most pristine blue waters. Definitely go on this tour while you are in Broome!
