 If you are going to Broome between March and October, I recommend you plan your trip around the Staircase to the Moon. This natural phenomenon is simply stunning. What happens is that the full moon rises precisely over Roebuck Bay’s mudflats. When this occurs during low tide, there is an optical illusion. It literally looks like a staircase is coming from the earth and going up to the moon. You have probably seen pictures of the Staircase to the Moon, but these don’t do proper justice. There is nothing like sitting on the beach with a cocktail in hand. The sound of the surf echoes in your ears and the whole night takes on a romantic feeling. When you see that staircase appear, it doesn’t matter that you know it’s an illusion. It really feels like magic is happening. From March-October, Staircase to the Moon occurs three nights every month.
