Raven Cottage - Kangaroo Island

It can be very difficult to decide where to stay while at Kangaroo Island.

The island itself is very big and you can end up spending all day driving to the different attractions.

Most of the hotels are located in Kingston or Penneshaw, but I don’t recommend staying there.

You will not get a feel for the scenic beauty and wildlife in Kangaroo Island.

We choose to stay in Vivonne Bay because the beach there is beautiful and it was so close to Flinders Chase National Park. We got very lucky and found a place called Raven Cottage.

It definitely is everything you would expect from a cottage, with cozy rooms, local art on the walls and wood everywhere.

Raven Cottage is located right in the brush and you have a little boardwalk taking you up to the front door.

You can expect some critters to come visit you at night!

It is 100km west from Penneshaw and 500 meters from the beach at Vivonne Bay (voted best beach in Australia).

You can hear the tides at night. There is a shop and visitor center 1 km away.

There are two bedrooms, one has a double bed and the other two single beds. The beds are located on a loft which you have to take some steep stairs up to.

For this reason, I guess it wouldn’t be good for families with really young children. Kids six and over should be fine though.

The kitchen is completely stocked with everything you could need and there is a separate eating and lounging space.

There is no phone at all, which is good or bad depending on how you look at it.

The price (depending on the season) is $95 per day. The only bad thing about this place is that you have to pay for your linen or bring your own.

For each bed per stay, linen costs $25. If you are just staying one night in Kangaroo Island, I would find another place to stay.

For those who are visiting for longer timeframes, Raven Cottage is ideal and a really great deal.
