Kakadu Culture Camp - Kodaku National Park

If you are visiting Kakadu, your options for accommodation are pretty limited.

There are several hotels in Jabiru, but they are all really overpriced for what you get.

My family and I were hoping to find someplace a bit different and more rugged for our outback trip.

We found out about Kakadu Cultural Camp in a forum and booked 3 nights there.

Let me say, you aren’t really paying for the camp so much as the entire experience.

We were definitely not disappointed. Kakadu Cultural Camp is located right in the National Park.

The tents are actually more like shelters and have solid floors and simple beds.

There were bunks for our two kids and a double bed for my husband and me.

There are only 10 different tents and they are all spread out so that you have privacy.

We were still really close to the amenities and the dining hall. Bathrooms were decent but not anything too fancy.

It was nice to know that everything is solar powered. Plus, they supply towels, soap, and everything except a toothbrush.

The food was really amazing. The staff serves up some great outback fare like the local barramundi, kangaroo, and water buffalo.

There were a lot of local vegetables and salads too, so I guess vegetarians would be okay here.

When you book at Kakadu Cultural Camp, you are required to book a tour also.

They claim to be the only operators in Kakadu who offer a night cruise, so we picked that one.

It was really amazing and we got to see lots of animals. I thought it would be a bit scary but it turned out to be great fun for everyone.

They also have a bunch of other tours to choose from and I wish we could have done more. Andy, Jenny, Fred, Doug, and Catherine are all amazing hosts and guides.

They were great with the kids and taught them the basics of didgeridoo, how to throw a boomerang and went on excursions through the bush.

The prices may seem a bit high for a camp at $195 a night per adult, but you are getting a full range of activities and knowledge. It is the whole experience that you are paying for.

My family and I tried a few places and Sea Breeze Cafe is definitely the best.

It isn’t anything fancy but all the food is simple and delicious.

The Colonial Tramcar Restaurant
The Colonial Tramcar restaurant is a great way to see inner Melbourne as you eat a feast of lovely food prepared on board. Styled on the original trams of the colonial era, guests will find that it feels as though they have been transported back in time.
This is a great bakery offering fresh breads and delicious cakes. For all those from the Ex-Yu, you will like this place because it is run by a fellow expatriate. This bakery even smells like home.
