Kabaira Dive Rabaul - Wreck Dives and Other Tours - PNG

Top 20 Travel Destinations: Rabaul I know that you can probably go diving at home in Australia, but Rabaul has some things that you can’t get anywhere else.

My husband and I went on the Wreck Dive tours offered by Kabaira Dive Rabaul.

The dive place is actually a nice resort with bungalow-style cabins, so you can stay there if you want too. The rooms seem really nice only the location is far away from the main town of Rabaul.

They picked us up from our hotel and the drive out to Kaibara was nice and scenic though a little bumpy. The reason we chose this dive over some of the other operators in Rabaul was the close proximity to George’s wreck.

This is a huge 2,000 ton Japanese freighter sunk during WWII. The diving team was completely professional and really informative.

I can’t thank them enough! Looking at that huge freighter lodged in the sea was outstanding. It was covered with black coral and sea fans. I also saw some fish and cowries too. This is just one of the many wreck dives that Kabaira offers and they also have reef and muck dives. Just about every good hotel offers some sort of dive option depending on your budget.

Kabaira is fabulous though, a sure bet, and has good reviews with some scuba magazines.

They offer volcano tours, WWII tours, and a “survival trip”.

We didn’t get a chance to see any of them but I can imagine that they are probably interesting, though Kabaira is a bit far away from main town Rabaul.
